(Phoenix, Arizona) — A new collective mural in Downtown Phoenix is blending powerful art with a dose of social issues, turning an alley into an art gallery of explosive colors.

The series of murals is called the 1 1/2 Street Mural Project.

The alley is located near the intersection of Central Avenue and Roosevelt, on 1st Street and Garfield, behind The Churchill, a popular Downtown restaurant.

Through their murals, some artists picked a political theme, for instance, about climate change and violence against women.

Artists like Lucinda Hinojos are using their artwork in this collaborative mural to raise awareness about indigenous women who are missing or have been murdered.

Isaac Caruso, an artist who coordinated this mural project, uses the space in one of his murals as a statement about the negative impacts of extreme weather that climate change can bring.

The rest of the artists who created this new mural in Downtown Phoenix are Breeze, Christopher Sanchez (Volar), Jane Goat, Jesse Perry, JJ Horner, Josh Bask, Lalo Cota, Leter, Nyla Lee, and Tato Caraveo.
