Deadly climate conditions threaten migrants in
Arizona’s desert | Sasabe, Arizona | May 15, 2012
As the usual hot summer approaches in Arizona, migrants entering the U.S. illegally face tough
challenges and death as they cross remote areas through the desert. Human smugglers or
"coyotes" conceal these extreme climate conditions, and immigrants also tend to underestimate
the risks. The Tucson Sector Border Patrol highlighted these threats during a two-day event that
took journalists to remote areas near Sasabe, Arizona. There, they had a real opportunity to
witness first-hand the dangers that await people crossing into Arizona illegally. Border Patrol
agents also gave members of the Media a tour along the U.S.-Mexico border fence in the city of
Nogales, Arizona. After this direct experience, Barriozona Magazine warns would-be immigrants not
to cross.
